Kaolin's classification and its separation

Kaolin can be divided into three types: coal (hard) kaolin, soft kaolin and sandy kaolin according to its mass, plasticity and sand content (mineral size of quartz, feldspar, mica and other minerals > 50 microns):
1.Hard kaolin (kaolinite rock): hard (hardness 3~4), it has no plasticity before processed bu kaolin ultra fine grinding mill.
2.Soft kaolin (earth kaolin): soft, plasticity is generally strong, sandy content.
3.Sandy kaolin: soft, its plasticity is generally weak, strong after sand removal, sandy content > 50%.
According to geological genesis, kaolin can be divided into two types:
1. Native Kaolin: refers to the kaolin that remains with the parent rock without being transported by natural forces after weathering. The kaolin produced in southern China is mainly of this type.
2. Sedimentary kaolin: refers to kaolin that has been deposited by natural forces and mixed with various impurities during handling and deposition. Most of the kaolin in northern China belongs to this type.
At present, the main purification methods of kaolin are re-election, magnetic separation, flotation, chemical leaching, bleaching and roasting. The specific process needs to be based on the type of impurities to be removed in the ore, the state of occurrence, the size of the inlay and the required product quality. Depends on the indicator.
Kaolin gravity separation
1.Principle of gravity separation: The difference in density and size between kaolin and gangue is utilized.
2.Gravity separation purpose: remove light organic matter and high-density impurities such as quartz, feldspar and iron-titanium-containing elements.
3.Commonly used equipment or pharmaceuticals: water cyclone, centrifuge, dispersant (sodium carbonate, sodium hexametaphosphate).
Practice has shown that gravity separation of purified kaolin is effective, and the washing and sieving operations in the kaolin purification process can be replaced by a small cone angle cyclone group or a centrifuge, which can not only achieve the purpose of washing and grading, but also remove some impurities.
Kaolin magnetic separation
1.Principle of magnetic separation: The magnetic difference between gangue minerals such as kaolin and hematite, siderite, pyrite and rutile is utilized.
2.Magnetic separation purpose: remove dyeing impurities such as hematite, siderite, pyrite and rutile.
3.Commonly used equipment or pharmaceuticals: all kinds of magnetic separation equipment.
The magnetic separation and purification process solves the problem of development and utilization of low-quality kaolin resources that are not high in commercial production due to high iron content. Superconducting magnetic separators can directly process kaolin containing more impurities. However, it is difficult to obtain high-quality kaolin products in a single magnetic separation operation. At present, other processes such as chemical bleaching are needed to further reduce the iron content of kaolin products.
Kaolin flotation
1.Flotation principle: The difference in surface properties between kaolin and gangue minerals is utilized.
2.Flotation purpose: to deal with kaolin ore with more impurities and lower whiteness, and remove iron, titanium and carbon impurities to achieve comprehensive utilization of low-grade kaolin resources.
3.commonly used equipment or pharmaceuticals: flotation machine, flotation column, collector, foaming agent, inhibitor.
Flotation can significantly improve the whiteness of kaolin, but its disadvantage is that it requires the addition of chemicals, resulting in increased production costs and environmental pollution.
